qapoje Park Coastal Resiliency Project

Shoreline Protection and Restoration, Design and Implementation Support

The qapoje Park Coastal Resiliency Project is a nature-based shoreline restoration and park improvement project in the K'ómoks Estuary, delivered in partnership between the CVRD, Stewardship Centre for BC and the K’ómoks Guardian Watchmen with support from Project Watershed, Guardians of Mid-Island Estuaries, and the Pacific Salmon Foundation.

The project protects the coastline from erosion and flood risk while restoring critical estuarine habitat, establishing a new tidal channel and viewing boardwalk, upgrading park amenities, removing invasive species, and protecting archaeologically sensitive areas within the park. It is Green Shores Gold Certified and was recognized with an FCM Sustainable Communities Award.

The name qapoje (kah-poh’-jeh) means “spring salmon in a creek flowing south”, the traditional ayajusem term for Coho Creek, which flows under Comox Road, through the park and into the estuary.

We provided design support, permitting, project planning, and construction oversight and monitoring throughout the project.
